Recent research shows that the biggest challenge to immigrants in Finland is simply knowing how the Finnish society works and getting the right information. Naturally this category covers a wide range of explicit as well as implicit practises, which Finnish colleagues or employers – with all their good intentions – might not be aware of. This often includes knowledge about the functioning of institutions and public services in Finland, things taken generally for granted by the Finnish population.
As a result, managers often end up spending precious time providing detailed information to foreign employees and immigrant workers in one-to-one meetings or via traditional communication channels (such as brochures) that do not always reach the target group in the right way.
We offer special induction courses for newly arrived employees, introducing them to the ways Finnish society, and in particularly Finnish workplaces, function. We focus on work ethic, time concept, general rules of politeness, authority and hierarchy, as well as on the availability and functioning of public services and other practical information. Each participant receives a specially-designed ‘welcome pack’ with detailed information presented in user-friendly ways, and our trainers will be available for unexpected questions as well.
The duration of the course is generally 20 contact hours over a period of two weeks, preferably immediately after the immigrants’ arrival to Finland. The number of participants may vary, and fees start at 1,200 EUR/course.
